The Law That Rules Part 3

Legal Resource Centre 2010
The last part of the Law That Rules focuses on Common Law and what it is, how it is made and how it is enforced. Common Law has no law as in legislation but the law is written in the judgements.  One example used is "Ginger Beer and Snails" which provides clear evidence of how common law evolves and changes as there are more cases that have similar circumstances.  There is also information on the various kinds and levels of courts in Canada and how cases can move from one court to another.

It is suggested that teachers preview the presentation prior to showing it to students to check for any technical difficulties.  The presentation may be stopped at any time to discuss any topic in more detail or to answer questions.  If there are terms you or your students are unfamiliar with, please use the glossary on the www.abclawnet.ca website.
