This lesson is designed for students in CTS Legal Studies, CALM, or Tourism Studies. The lesson explores modern and historical laws and emphasises the importance of students learning about the laws of any country they travel to.
During the lesson students will:
identify issues and legal considerations that may arise when individuals travel domestically and internationally;
become aware of historical laws and how laws reflect culture;
associate several world countries with geographic locations;
associate laws with countries based on culture, history, and location;
be involved in interpersonal interaction during the learning process;
research penalties and consequences for violation of laws in other countries.
Activities include a travel quiz and a student game dealing with weird laws. There is also a mapping component that assists in matching laws with specific countries.
Note: This activity was originally published in a 2007 issue of LawNow magazine. Some of the laws described in this resource may no longer be in effect.
